Round 7 – Thruxton
The 2019 Bennetts British Superbike Championship has passed its halfway point and there are now just seven races left until the all-important Showdown commences. With all riders focused, Xavi Forés is sitting in the danger spot in sixth place, with the rest of the field outside the top-six looking to take that away from him.
Teammate Andrew Irwin is one of those hoping to close the gap to the top-six, where he’s currently sitting eighth, just 20 points shy of Forés. Last time out Irwin enjoyed his best result so far of the season, finishing fourth aboard the Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2.
Tom Neave is also looking for another solid weekend at the super-fast Thruxton circuit. With consistent top-10 results behind him all season, the Lincolnshire-lad is looking to bridge the gap to the front runners in the Superstock 1000 Championship, where he’s currently sixth overall in the standings.
Thruxton is one of the fastest circuits on the BSB calendar, with long, fast straights and flowing corners, to tight, demanding complex and chicane sections it’s a firm favourite with most riders. Built in 1940 as RAF Thruxton, a World War II airfield and home to both the RAF and USAF, the site was used for troop-carrying aircraft and gliders during the D-Day landings.
