Honda Racing BSB Diaries – Episode 5 | Knockhill
The Honda Racing team is pleased to present Episode 5 of ‘BSB Diaries’.
Round 5 of the British Superbike Championship at Knockhill in Scotland was a positive outing for the Honda Racing team. Heading North of the border for the weekend, the 1.3-mile Knockhill circuit awaited the team and riders Xavi Forés, Andrew Irwin and Tom Neave, which has been a circuit known to suit the Fireblade in the past.
With the British weather throwing all it could at the circuit on Saturday, Qualifying was disrupted with heavy rain falling, but Spaniard Forés impressed as he put in a faultless performance aboard the Fireblade to claim his first-ever BSB pole position. Following up his success on Sunday, Forés finished Race 1 in third place, to claim his fourth podium of the 2019 season.
Teammate Andrew Irwin also looked super smooth in Saturday’s wet conditions as he qualified in his best position yet of the season in fifth place. Sadly the opening race didn’t go to plan and Irwin crashed out, unhurt, while chasing down the front group. However the second race saw Irwin’s potential shine through – starting from 14th place he launched his Fireblade off the line and soon made his way through the pack, picking off his BSB rivals to take the chequered flag in fifth place.
For the teams’ National Superstock 1000 Championship contender Tom Neave, it was another strong weekend. Finishing eighth in his 24-lap race, he maintains his position in the overall championship standings in sixth place.
